Listed to the left are the major issues and challenges facing our town of Los Altos Hills as we approach the 2002 Fall election. These issues have all arisen within the past two years, since Toni Casey won control of the City Council. Individually they could be considered simply as an aberration in an otherwise functional City Council. Collectively, they are so overwhelming that they can only be described as the "Casey Catastrophe".
Five candidates are running to fill two seats. Two candidates support the goals of HILLS2000, seeking to conserve the rural atmosphere of our town while reaching towards the best the future has to offer. Two candidates are aligned with the LAH Civic Association, the admitted political machine of the Toni Casey organization, seeking to continue the agenda of the Casey/Fenwick Council. One candidate is non-aligned.
As you seek to learn about the town issues, you should be aware that the "Town Happenings" newsletter that you receive is NOT an official publication of the Town of Los Altos Hills. It is the political publication of Toni Casey's LAH Civic Association. As such, it provides a highly biased, Casey oriented viewpoint on all town issues.
At stake in this election is nothing less than the character of our town. Shall we continue to prize our open spaces and neighborliness, or will we become an unfriendly gated community? Your vote may determine our future!
